Ekaterina Korzh is originally from Saint Petersburg, Russia. Her first education was in Socio-Economic Geography. Just later she received her training in jewelry and metalsmithing. The first jewelry class she took was in Bogotá, Colombia, where she conducted her geographical research. Currently, she is located in Lawrence, Kansas where she obtained her latest MFA in Metalsmithing/Jewelry and is planning where she will go next.
"At the age of 24, I crossed the Atlantic for the first time, and ever since then, I kept moving between Russia, the USA, and Colombia. The exploration of the struggle and growth on this adventure is where my research is going. I blend traditional embroidery techniques with metalwork and found objects in jewelry to illustrate my respect for historical Russian craft practices and the conventional crafts I discovered through international travels. I explore homesickness versus travel, tradition versus contemporary, politics versus individuality, and the tensions between these ideas."
